Wisdom teeth (third molars) are the last teeth to erupt, usually in the late teens. Our dentists and team are happy to discuss removing you or your child’s wisdom teeth in Atascocita, Texas.
Why Do We Have Wisdom Teeth?
These “extra teeth” are not necessary for the function of the mouth and often cause overcrowding or experience dental decay because they are hard to reach and clean. Thankfully, they are easier than ever to remove thanks to advancing technology.
Common Problems Caused by Wisdom Teeth
If a wisdom tooth becomes impacted, it can cause:
- Tooth misalignment
- Damage to surrounding teeth
- Tooth decay
- Gum disease
- Cysts
- Jawbone damage
What Should We Expect?
- Your teen will be made comfortable using sedation and anesthetic medication.
- Ensure they follow a soft, bland diet for the initial days after surgery.
- Provide medication to minimize discomfort.
- Ensure they brush and floss gently around the surgical area and gargle with salt water to promote healing.
- Make sure they follow all post-op instructions!
